Chapstick: I bought this pump to replace a matrix, which the pool experts said that would be ok. It works great, very powerful and keeping my pool clean.
One important thing to note before getting this is where you need the valve. There’s the pump that has a valve coming out vertically (as in the picture), or horizontally. I got this one, when I needed the horizontal one. DOH! I had to unscrew the screws and turn it the right way.
Problem solved, except the part that connects to the baskets would not tighten all the way without being crooked. This might be why the jet stream weakens after a few minutes. Not sure, but at least there’s no leaks.
This is a great pump for an above ground pool. Just don’t make the same mistake I did.
Pool Girl: Our old pump just crapped out on us when we tried to hook it up this summer. We ordered from Amazon it was shipped very quickly and installed within minutes.
It was the same pump we had but a little more horsepower. It works great and we are very pleased it got our pool up and running for a fraction of the cost. We priced motors and pumps locally and found all to be at least as twice as much. We would recommend this product.
Zeebadee2010: Hayward is a great brand and this pump doesn’t fall below their standards. It is more than powerful enough for an above ground pool. And it is very very quiet.
Pros: Quiet, reliable, powerful.
Cons: Lid for hair basket is kinda hard to reattach due to water pressure but as long as you maintain downward force it’s relatively easy. Doesn’t clean the pool for me..
M. Davis: This pump has plenty of power attached to a sand filter for my 13,000 gallon above ground pool. Only problem is it has no on-off switch and you have to plug and unplug it to turn it on and off. The top comes off easily for cleaning the filter basket. Was simple to install to my filtering system. Durability – I run it nearly every other day for 3-4 hours and no problems so far – 4 months.
July 23, 2011 – It is now 1 year later and my pump is still running strong. I would definitely recommend this pump.
